The Recording Academy® Producers & Engineers Wing® Presents Informative Panel Sessions at the 139th AES Convention in NYC

September 28th, 2015 | Posted in News, newsletter

As part of its ongoing efforts to offer educational resources and other development opportunities to audio professionals, The Recording Academy® Producers & Engineers Wing® will host two special events at the 139th International AES Convention at the Javits Center in New York City.

On Saturday, October 31, an international panel titled “Your Credits, Your Money, the new Data Standards and DDEX —What YOU Need to Know!” will take place from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Paul Jessop of County Analytics will serve as moderator. Panelists will include Jonathan Bender – COO, SoundExchange; Maureen Droney – Managing Director, Producers & Engineers Wing; Niels Rump – DDEX Secretariat; and John Spencer – President, BMS/Chace. In the digital world, capturing data in the studio is more important than ever before. This includes credits such as contributor names and roles, technical information, and all versions of a recording’s titles. Without this data, opportunities to monetize the recording and payments to creative contributors can get missed, at home and abroad. The challenges to collecting this data and ensuring it flows throughout the whole supply chain are being addressed by a consortium of media companies working with DDEX (www.ddex.net), an international organization standardizing the music supply chain through the creation of common formats for information communication and the support of metadata improvement initiatives. This workshop, held in collaboration with The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing, will introduce attendees to new data standards, an exciting new metadata collection application, and information about how these will impact audio and recording professionals in the very new future. The band’s first album, Hybrid Theory, was certified Diamond by the RIAA and multi-platinum in several other countries. Subsequent albums Meteora, Minutes to Midnight, A Thousand Suns, and Living Things have all been highly acclaimed. Their latest release, The Hunting Party, carries the band’s tradition of excellence forward yet again. And with this latest album, microphones from Royer Labs and its sister company Mojave Audio feature prominently in the project’s production.

Los Angeles, CA-based mixer, recording engineer, and producer Ethan Mates served as the Engineer in the production of The Hunting Party, which was released in June of 2014 on the Warner Brothers label. Mumford & Sons Go Wild Over L-Acoustics

September 28th, 2015 | Posted in News, newsletter

UK four-piece Mumford & Sons brought their 2015 tour to North America this summer, playing a string of arena, amphitheater and outdoor shows in support of their third album, Wilder Mind, which was released earlier in the year. Canadian production provider Solotech, headquartered in Montréal, supported the tour with an L-Acoustics concert sound system selected by the band’s audio team for its flexibility, scalability and, above all, musicality.

“A Mumford & Sons tour plays very diverse venues; that’s the fun of it,” comments Jamie Howieson, the band’s audio system engineer and sound designer. The band, supplemented by four additional musicians on this tour, is very dynamic and really do go from the proverbial whisper to a scream, he says. “They go from all standing around one microphone in front of a crowd of 40,000 people to full-on rock. So we wanted a system that would produce the best possible full-range sound and frequency response, and be very musical. The L-Acoustics K1/K2 rig allows you to be flexible and get a lot done. “ More »
